William W. Roberts of Huntington served as grand marshal in the state Royal Arch chapter ceremonies. The event featured the grand master of Masons in West Virginia, a role previously held by Sheets.
Admiral D. Burcham installed as most excellent high priest of Admiral Chapter No. 3 at Mullens. Officers elected include R. N. Smith king W. F. Moore scribe and others. Banquet drew Masonic dignitaries from Huntington Charleston Mount Hope Princeton Bluefield and Athens.
Two more suspects confessed to taking part in the Island Creek Coal Co store break in Wyoming County. James Ronald Harless 25 of Kistler had earlier confessed to the Monday robbery. Roosevelt Allen and James Vance both of Davin confessed later. A 17 year old Davin youth jailed with them faces a possible lie detector test today. Police say none admit involvement in two December school robberies.
In Mullens the senior boys home economics class IW was organized to meet the growing need for shared family responsibilities. Miss Beatrice Taylor, teacher, notes the group aims to expand practical skills among youths. In Oak Hill the Senior Woman's Club plans a 6 30 turkey dinner today at Mrs N C Millers Ridge. Gifts will be lighted at the meeting. Mr and Mrs Cather Eads and family from Durham NC visit his parents Mr and Mrs W Eads.
In Kitchener Ontario 1 035 bachelors contribute a $10 poll tax this year to fund city coffers, while those without property taxes also pay the levy.
Pineville residents share holiday visits and family ties as clergy families attend gatherings. The Rev Earl Miller of Ravenswood and his wife, an instructor, were hosted by his parents in Pineville. Other locals include Opie Pridemore visiting from Chapmangville, D T Daniels and family hosting, Mrs Fred H Shannon visiting Mullens, and the Niswander family moving from Roanoke to Youngstown as he transfers.
A seven member Glen Rogers family nearly suffocated by carbon monoxide from a coal stove. Parents John Marrical and Belda Ruth along with children Della Cecila Diana Lynn Shelia Debra and Stella Greer were treated at Wyoming General Hospital. all released by Monday. A special American Legion Auxiliary meeting in Pineville will plan Christmas baskets for two needy families with gifts for exchange.
Whitesville plans the second annual Chamber of Commerce Employer-Employee Dinner at Whitesville Elementary School at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. About 150 expected. Wilma Hoffman oversees the menu. Mrs Loy Christian hosted Circle Two members of the Christian Woman's Fellowship at her South Mallens home Friday night. Mrs D C Farley Jr led the devotional and program after an opening prayer by Rev G N Perkins. Refreshments followed and a gilt exchange was held during the social hour.
Whitesville American Legion Post and Women of the Moose discuss a merged Christmas Food Basket project to reach more families. A joint program aims to avoid duplications with donations and family lists being reviewed for delivery before Christmas. Committee members include Nick Arvon Lakin Hensley and E A Carlson.
The Spirit of Christmas flower show at Collins High School honored Oak Hill and Fayetteville gardeners. Winners included best arrangement by Mrs A. Le Sydinor and best horticulture specimen by Mrs Vesta Mae Jones with a special Spirit of Christmas award to Mrs Clarice McDonald.
Whitesville notes a Boone County polio clinic on Thursday from 1 p.m. at the Knights of Pythias Hall in Seth. The Boone County Health Department will administer first second and booster shots for local children supervised by nurse Thelma Midkiff. Records of inoculations are kept at the Madison county health office and may be consulted. Mary Smith confirms these records are available.
Oak Hill RNS report of the Bunker Hi Huslers 4-H Club Monday meeting led by Mrs Hilda DeQuasie. The program The Five Point Star explained the five points of the Christmas star with love of God love of man thoughtfulness service and joy. Alpoca couple Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brogan celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in Florida over Christmas. They married December 24 1927 in Herndon. Brogan, a Virginian Railway conductor since 1924, and Ollie Mae Brogan from Logan County are longtime residents of Alpoca and active in Bud First Baptist Church.
