Bank Directors Name Officers After Prince Death

Austin Caperton Slab Fork and Owen W Cox Laurel Creek were elected president and vice president respectively of the New River Banking and Trust Company at a board meeting yesterday. Caperton, a former director and bank vice president, fills the vacancy caused by the death of James F Prince at Laird Memorial Hospital in Montgomery on July 30.

Fayette County adds 65 teachers before school starts

Fayette County School Superintendent Otway Gunnoe announced 65 additional teachers to fill openings across Fayette County schools. Names include Gloria Gwinn Lockbridge Shams Mountain, Grace Thomas Winona, Cora Elwell Fayetteville principal Victory, Carl B. Legg Gauley Bridge principal Rich Creek, Lydia Byers Oak Hill Kingston, Vona Reed Gauley Bridge Boomer, and many others across Mountain, Meadow Bridge, Pratts, and Dempsey schools.

Woman found on road near Mullens mystery deepens

A Mullens area incident centers on a young woman found twice lying on highways near Mullens and later in Welch Emergency Hospital. Police say she has given multiple names Blanche Hendricks Irene Hendricks Grace Palmer and appears alternately clear headed and intoxicated while being treated for mouth hemorrhages and injuries.

A note reading I was drunk, am returning all directed police to a Park Square Bus terminal locker where clothing was found in a suit case. The jewelry remained locked in a rear car compartment broken into early yesterday.

Branch Is Given 30 Day Sentence After Guilty Pleas

Mullens miner Archie Branch of the Stephen son mine with Buckeye Coal and Coke Company received 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to drunkenness and to assaulting his wife Beulah and his seven year old stepson. He was fined 25 dollars plus costs for the child assault and 10 dollars plus costs for the wife assault and 10 dollars plus 30 days for drunkenness. Neighbors and police tracked Branch after he fled during arrest and finally captured him in a neighbor’s home.

Negroes Arrested for Possessing Moonshine in West Virginia

Two men, Elmore Miller 43 Mullens and William Dawkins 58 Co vel, arrested by state police and federal agents near Mullens for moonshine possession. They waived preliminary hearing before U S Commissioner Henry Bernard at Welch and were released on $500 bond to appear before the January federal grand jury. The arrest followed a Monday night pickup in Dawkins car.

Second Attempt Made To Steal West Vehicle

Thieves tried to steal Bert Vest’s 1937 Chevrolet sedan on Highland Avenue near the First Methodist Church. The ignition wires were crossed with a loose connection found Tuesday morning. Other residents reported missing gas caps and a gear shift knob Monday.
