Eight crew and five passengers were aboard the converted B-17 when it ran out of fuel in rough seas. Only three were saved. five bodies recovered and a sixth sighted then sank. Survivors quote Col. Harvey Huglin as saying Atcheson smiled as the plane descended. Authorities reported deaths of Col. Carl Russell Col. David Larr Capt. Randolph Boyer and pilot Capt. K R Still.
In the case, 64 liquor defendants forfeited bonds of $5 and costs. Other men named Claude G. Smith Albert Komosa John Cale Selma D. Hipes Norman P. Conner James Walter McVey and Joe Hidella faced similar forfeitures of bonds and costs.

Nearly 30 youths from the Wyoming County Methodist Church depart for Camp Beckwith in Fayette County for five days. Dr. Glenn W. Stewart of Beckley directs the program for boys and girls ages 12 to 14, with a long list of participating county youths.
J. W. Word, co owner of Word-Duncan Moor Co of Mullens, will undergo an examination at a Staunton Virginia hospital this week and may enter the University of Virginia Hospital at Richmond for an operation. He has been suffering a back injury from a golf attempt after a ten year lapse.
The shooting occurred at the Wriston home in Sylvester between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. Sunday. Mrs. Wriston, the former Ruby Kidd, postmistress at Sylvester, and their young daughter were present. James Wriston died. funeral arrangements are incomplete at Valley Funeral Home.
