Scalise Plans State Police Meeting in Dunbar
City Police Chief Anthony Scalise announced plans to attend a State Police meeting at the Dunbar Police Academy. The Sept 13 session will shape a possible officer school, with length and attendance to be determined by response. Centennial Plans Near Completion For Raleigh bands parade roles
About 15 high school bands plan to participate in Raleigh County Centennial week with Woodrow Wilson High School as official band. Princet on Mt. Hope and Lewisburg out of county bands will attend. plans include parades and Youth Day events. Major events include Mardi Gras Day closing the celebration and a UN banner exhibit.

Nine people lodged in Raleigh County Jail
Nine individuals were jailed in Raleigh County with two escapees identified as Tommy Ball and Napoleon Washington. Ball, recaptured in his Mt Tabor garden, and his wife Virginia, facing parole violation, had prior auto theft charges. Washington, a Beckley man, was arrested on drunkenness after breaking guard about two years ago. Additional locals jailed by county police include Ballard Lee Hilton Shady Spring Clayton Redden Carl Cousin Dorothy Cook Eva Ingram and city arrests of Darius Atkins Thedford Rice and Leo Barnabi who paid fines for a red light and other offenses. Regular Raleigh County School Board Meeting Postponed
The Raleigh County Board of Education postpones today’s semi monthly meeting as required statutes call for August 1 and 15 sessions. A joint Board and Advisory Board meeting is set for 4 p.m. September 5. An all day teachers meeting for about 800 educators will be held from 9 30 a.m. to 3 30 p.m. September 1 at Woodrow Wilson High School.
