Dorothy Amick records a long roundup of social visits and travel across Beckley and nearby towns. Residents and guests arrive from Tampa Birmingham Huntington Charleston and Detroit to stay with relatives, attend fairs, visit family, and tour Virginia, Canada, and Florida during a busy period.
Mona Carole Farthing, a new Beckley resident, was honored at a welcome party hosted by Nancy Candler on Vine Street. The event, a canasta gathering, featured mixed summer flower arrangements and guests including Peggy Adams and Ann Ross Hoffman among others.
Moose Teen-Agers Club staged a Tuesday night program with Miss Carol Sue Truman George Gunter and Miss Jean Porter in tap and toe dances. Bob Daniels led the event with songs while Woodlawn Quartet performed. About 200 teens attended and Dave Harper's band provided the music. next dance September 13.
Mrs. Robert Porter was entertained Saturday evening at a stork shower hosted by Mrs. B. M. Darnell of Winding Gulf. Attendants included Miss Zel la Porter Miss Betty Porter Miss Irene Darnell Miss Pauline Via Mrs. Frank Porter and many others.
A farewell party in Beckley honors Jane Noon as she and her parents move to Minden in September. Mary Carol Libs and Nandy Jane Coram hosted at the Libs home on Ann Street with dancing and games and a presentation of a pitt to Jane. Attendees included Miriam Warren, Nancy Kay Williams, Carolyn Tully, and many others.
Twenty six boards were in play Tuesday evening during the week to duplicate bridge game sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League at the Coca Cola Building on S Oakwood Avenue. An average of 60 match points was scored by the members attending. First place was won by Sam Bockman and Bill Klein with a score of 80, second to Mr and Mrs C F Bloch with 6844, and third to Dr Jack Binderman and Max Workman with 4614 points. Other pairs placed as follows: Position Team 4 13 5 6 6 9 1 8 0 9 8 10 4 1 3 3 12 2 13 12.
Mrs J C Lilly and Wanda Sum Mrs Arnold Fleming of Mabscott have returned after visiting relatives. They spent a few days in the home of Mr and Mrs Derwood Lewis of Co Maize Washington Pal.
