Frost predicts meat and poultry outlook tied to weather

Government forecasts show cooler, wet July may delay corn development. harvests of soybeans, sugar beets, and grains look strong. If frost hurts crop size, livestock feed costs could rise and curb expansion in meat, dairy, and poultry production. Strong corn reserves cushion supply, but future prices depend on planting, disease risks, and frost protection.

Free Trees Policy Draws Fire From West Virginia Nurserymen

The West Virginia Nurserymen's Association attacked the State Conservation Commission's free trees program last week at Bluefield, arguing it competes with nursery sales. John Young of Sickmore condemned the policy, noting the trees are funded by hunting license revenue and federal money, and landowners must permit hunting as a condition. The program aims at wildlife and habitat improvement, not farm sanctuaries, and could help nurseries indirectly.
