White a woman payroll clerk checked pay records when three Adams Coal Company employees at Edwight Raleigh County argued over amounts due them and snatched several pay envelopes before fleeing. State Trooper C. W. Otto said the suspects’ names were being withheld pending arrest.
Whitesville reports the Moose Family Lodge national Friendship Award will be presented at an August Chicago gathering. Mrs. 4. C. Lewis of Whitesville is named as a focal WOTM member attending, with plans set for others to join the event. The Whitesville chapter funds included a $20 rummage sale profit. Madison updates list six Boone County couples seeking marriage licenses, including White King and Page Brown, Belcher Chapman, Nelson White, Myers Legg, and Bradley Billups. The Kenney reunion is set for August 20 at Prenter.
Graveside rites scheduled for 2 p.m. at Barker Cemetery in Mud for Egbert Vansater 33 of Cameo killed in a mine accident Saturday at Cameo. Funeral arrangements by Hunter and Hunter Funeral Home Madison. Survived by wife Eliza Cameo two sons Harry Wayne and Egbert Vannatter Jr at home one daughter Anita at home mother Eliza Booth Cameo three brothers and seven sisters.
Whitesville attorney and Rotarian John M. Stephens was guest speaker at the Whitesville Lions Club meeting. His topic, Wisdom of Having a Will, was presented in the club’s new hotel dining room as 13 members and one guest attended.
Four lots on Big Coal River were bought by two Whitesville men, with Lot 12, Block AY Long Creek purchased from the Southern Land Company. The buyers, Lipford and Lipford, acquired 7 975 square feet from Deborah and George L. Adkins, and also acquired Lots 11 12 in Branham Addition from D Fred Branham trustee. Additional transfers listed include multiple parcels in Sherman and Scott districts.
Whitesville residents urge action on a dangerous swing bridge over Big Coal River linking town sections. City claims no repair duty. State Road Commission ownership and an easement complicate responsibility. Council authorizes mayor to again petition the SRC for maintenance.
Mrs Arnald Breecher Cook honored Tuesday night with a stork shower at her mother in law Vida Cooks Boone Street home. First Baptist Church Young People class planned event with pink and white refreshments and guests from the church.
Whitesville residents hosted visitors over the weekend. Edward R. Shibley entertained Dr. and Mrs. N. F. Sabbagth of Grundy Virginia, a resident surgeon at Maddy Williams Hospital. Helen D Michalis and several others visited local hosts and relatives across town.
Funeral services for Ernie Stover 24 son of Mr and Mrs Abe Stover Ameagle will be held at the home at 2 pm Tuesday with Rev Leslie Rogers officiating Valley Funeral Home in charge The body was returned to the parents home today He had been killed Sunday August 6 when struck by an automobile near Buckeye Arizona Surviving are his parents two brothers Vernie and Okey and sister Vinie all of Ameagle
Two cars sideswiped near Eunice causing about 300 dollars in damage. Danny Branham of Whitesville sustained the heaviest damage to his right front and rear fenders and side. Hazel Woody's car struck Branham's as he pulled from a side road on State Route 3. A Carolina Motor Express trailer was lightly damaged after narrowly missing Coal River near the Pettus bridge. The unnamed trailer driver was uninjured.
Funeral services were set for 3 p.m. today at Greenwood Church for Billy Gene Hawks month old son of Edna Hawks. He died Sunday at Madison General Hospital. Burial will be in Workman Cemetery Bald Knob with Hunter and Hunter Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are his mother and grandparents.
Magistrate Ernest Richards presided Friday in Seth. Troy J. Buckhannon of Virginia paid $5 and costs for hazardous driving. Buel Ivan Williams of California was fined $5 and costs on a similar charge. Both were apprehended by Constable James Warren.

Mrs. Bessie Topolsky 61 of Gary died at Grace Hospital Vetch at 5 p m Friday Born in Clintwood Va she was a daughter of the late Freeland and Omar Hale Phipps She was married to Stanley Topolsky and was a Methodist Church member Funeral services were to be held at Kee Street Methodist Church at 2 p m today Rev Z F Mayberry officiating Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery
Funeral services were held at 11 am for 88 year old Mrs Mackie Bell Devers of Princeton who died after a fall at her son Rays East Princeton home. Rev A B Seal conducted rites at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Page Cemetery Flat Top Yards Virginia. Surviving children include John Devers Arizona Ray Devers Columbus D and Raymond C Devers Princeton with five daughters including Rockie Steel Simpkins Beane Davidson and Delph.
The Dorothy Presbyterian Church Young People’s Class, led by Rev. Ed Hate, toured three Charleston houses of worship on Thursday. Attending were Madeline Morrison Carol Biggs Freda Kirk Bud Foster Lois Foster Wanda Rickman James Pettry and Lois Moody.
