Twenty Million Not Enough West Virginia Farmers'
West Virginia farmers could raise cash income far beyond last year’s nearly $200 million by expanding dairy and poultry outputs. State dairies produced 886 million pounds of milk, with potential to add about $35 million in gross income by meeting the state market, if cow productivity matched the national average. Poultry and egg expansion could push state income higher, as out‑of‑state sales drained about $10 million in milk equivalents and $20 million in poultry products.
