Mrs. William Waller Hume regent describes the Beckley DAR as advancing patriotism through education, historical preservation, and youth programs. The group funds student loans, aids schools, preserves records, hosts lectures and flag instruction, and runs annual citizenship projects.
Mrs R H McKinney hosted a North Oakwood shower for her daughter in law Mrs John McKinney with a social evening and many gifts. Guests included Mrs N J Gagalis Mrs George Norman Mrs Radford Wheeler and numerous others in attendance.
Mrs Opal Montgomery of Pemberton became Mrs Lewis Via after marriage. Mrs Frank Billups and friends hosted a mixed shower at Mrs Billups' home with games and gifts. Guests included Mrs Ollie Keadle from Hinton and several Pem berton residents among the hostesses and attendees.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Teel hosted a dinner Thursday evening in lovely surroundings. Guests included Miss Margaret Urbine of Chester PA and Mr. and Mrs. Ennis Bailey of New Kensington, with covers set for N D Nace of Tams Beulah George Kernie Moore Mount Hope Hughart Holliday Robert Fisher Anna Lee Bailey and others.
The Philathea class of the Baptist church will hold its monthly business and social meeting Monday at 1 pm in the new home of president Mrs. W. A. Thompson, 173 Fourth Street. All members urged to attend. First month
Mr. and Mrs. W B Carper and Mrs C Martin leave for a six weeks motor trip through Western states. They plan to spend most of their vacation in California.
Numerous residents and relatives from Mount Hope to Morgantown and Huntington travel or host guests this week. Margaret Leary travels with George Williams and family while Frank Lee's group returns from a Movieland tour and Mount Ranier trips.
Mrs. James Burdiss hosts a miscellaneous shower for Mrs. A L Clay on North Heber Street with yellow and white decorations and talisman rose centerpiece. Guests include Mrs. A M Godhey Mrs. J T Waulk and many others as travelers and visitors are noted in Ardmore era social columns.
Bobby Wilmouth marked his seventh birthday Thursday at his parents home Mr and Mrs Ben H Wilmouth entertaining friends. Guests included Mary Frances Ellis Princeton Sonny Sheets David Huffman Emma Low Caroline Wauhop Marian Cox Anna Mae Fink Betty Jean Evelyn Nug en Glenna Tolley Winding Gulf Mary Jim Trail Ruth Trail Mary B Cline Emily Lou Bennie Cline and Bennie Wilmouth.
A Harvey Methodist church Missionary society hosted a Weiner roast at a resort near Glen Daniel. Attendees enjoyed hot tennis quoits croquet shuffleboard ping pong and badminton before a late supper for a long list of members and guests including Mrs N N Foster Mrs Lawrence Cumbow Mrs Will Cumbow Mrs George Lehman and several others.
Miss Laura Jean Warhop and Mr Hamlet Grey Jennings were married Sunday August 2 at the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. Ross Culpepper officiating. The couple planned a motor trip through Virginia and will base in Lynchburg where Mr Jennings works for the United States Department of Agriculture and Mrs Jennings will join him in September.
Doctors Norman and Olga Booher host guests Lieutenant and Mrs. Marion Brown of Charleston this weekend. Lieutenant Brown commands at Camp Boone in Keith. Booher and Brown are slated to compete in a golf tournament at Hinton today.

Mrs J Edwin Dickerson principal of Lincoln School completed her work for a Bachelor of Arts degree last semester at Marshall College and returned Friday for graduation exercises. While in Huntington the couple were guests of Mrs A R Dickerson in the home of L A Dickerson and family.
Mr and Mrs H A Walker announce the marriage of their daughter Wanda Lucille to James William Fortner, performed Friday evening at Crab Orchard by Rev French. Fortner, son of W J Fortner of Crab Orchard, works for the local coal company. Plans for the couple are not announced. residence expected in Crab Orchard.
