Rollins Funeral Conducted Today

Samuel Rollins 93 died Tuesday at his home in Oceana. Funeral services were held at 1 a.m. at the Free Will Baptist Church in Oceana with Rev. Stellie Parsons in charge. Burial followed in the family cemetery. Survivors include three sons Posey Harriman Tenn Grat Manchester Ky Sam Jr Oceana and four daughters Martha Massey Clear Fork Cosby Rollins Ohio Lilly Oceana and Virgie Rolling Logan.

Martin Injured In Truck Wreck At Coal Dump

Martin, 27, of Seth injured when a dump foundation failed causing his truck for Red Patrol Coal Company of Prenter to plunge over an embankment at work. Hospital reports say condition good with a broken nose. He was taken to a Charleston hospital for treatment.

Washington Rites Slated Saturday for Sally Washing

Funeral services for Sally Washing on 80 of Rhodell are set for 2 30 p m Saturday at Rhodell First Baptist Church conducted by Rev C E B Phillips. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery Beckley. She died Sunday in a Mullens hospital. The body lies at Robertson and Foleson Funeral Home chapel until 12 30 p m Saturday.

Mullens firemen were summoned to the West Mullens home of Mr and Mrs Enoch Cook at 10 43 p m Tuesday. The couple were away on vacation in Chattanooga Tenn Their son Robert 19 was asleep when smoke woke him and he found wiring around a fuse box under his bedroom on fire Firemen reported little or no damage The item also notes a band practice at Mount Hope High School with dates and new director Allen Steel.

Whitesville Chamber of Commerce members and area groups are invited to a Madison Memorial Building gathering at 7 30 p m to discuss forming a Boone County United Fund. The drive would unify fundraising for Scouts Cancer and Heart Funds Red Cross and Polio Drive with annual gifts.

Pax Town Gets Water Rate Increase to Cover Loss

Charleston Fayette County town of Pax receives higher water rates from the Public Service Commission to offset a net annual loss of just over $1,000. The system serves 180 customers in Pax Long Branch and Weirwood. Residential minimum rises from $3 to $4.25 monthly with a tiered per thousand gallon price structure.

Joint Installation Ceremony Held By Fayette Legion Post

Fayetteville report on a joint installation of American Legion Post and Auxiliary officers. Dewey Mentz led the installation with new West Virginia Department postsmen. Eleven officers were installed including Knotts Propps Caldwell Cruikshanks Hesne and Witt. The outgoing commander John Witt received a plaque and citation. Henry Beckers installed auxiliary officers and presented awards for child welfare and history.

Hazlett Named Recreation Center Board Chairman

Tom Hazlett is named the new chairman of the Comfort Recreation Center Board of Directors succeeding Myri Thompson who resigned due to relocation. Secretary-treasurer Mrs Ira Cooper joins Hazlett as they plan more programs. pool hours extend to 8 p m with lighting work pending. The center sits on 12 acres near Rabine along State Route 3, 18 miles from Whitesville, offering a baseball diamond picnic area volleyball court and a remodeled recreation building. Saturday square dances are proposed.

Draft Call Reaches Seven Area Men In Arkansas

In Fayetteville area seven men have been called for induction into the Armed Forces with report dates set for August 15. The list includes William McBride and Andrew Thomas Jr of Carlisle, Charlie Lee Compton of Edmond, James Wilbert Mayo of Mount Hope, Charles Lee Shepherd of Thayers, and Robert Gene Richmond and Blaine Royal of Fayetteville according to local clerk J R Gentry.
