Fayette Court Sentences 2 To State Penitentiary

Fayette Circuit Court sentenced two defendants to prison after pleas of guilty and probation petitions. Aaron Wyant of Green Sulphur drew one to five years for unlawful wounding. Kenneth Adkins of Backus Mount Brackenridge Robson Ve years for grand larceny and assault. A stabbing incident near Oak Hill involved Edwin Elgin and Norman Brackenridge with police responding to a reported stabbing.

Branham Riles Set Wednesday Funeral Rites

George S. Branham died of a heart attack Sunday in Washington D C while visiting his daughter Peggy Webb. He was vice president and general manager of Webb Coal Co and vice president of Coal River Realty Co. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 30 P M in Whitesville First Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Memorial Park South Charleston. The body lies at Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville awaiting transport to the church an hour before services.

Polio Clinic Cancelled and Rescheduled at Seth

The regular Polio Clinic scheduled for Seth on August 7 is canceled. Public health nurse Mrs. Thelma Midkiff announced the schedule will resume on August 2 at the Knights of Pythias Hall in Seth with first second and third polio vaccine shots available without cost.

Charles Patrick Wilson Dies in Alaska Died in air force service

Fayetteville telegram reports Airman Third Class Charles Patrick Wilson age 20 stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base Anchorage Alaska has died cause pending. Wilson, a 1955 Fayetteville High School graduate, trained at Lackland Texas and transferred to Alaska in December 1956.

Fred Swan about 70 of Burke Avenue died Monday at 12 30 p m while preparing to cash a check at the teller’s window in the New River Banking and Trust Co Oak Hill. Memorial Fund Beginnings for Mrs. Robert Ray

Oak Hill mourns as Mrs. Robert Ray dies in Point Pleasant. A memorial fund is urged for the Oak Hill First Presbyterian Church building, with many attendees contributing in memory and Mrs. Williams honored in a bridal shower at First Baptist Fellowship Hall.

Redbud Garden Club Holds Family Picnic

The Redbud Garden Club held its annual picnic at 6 pm Monday at the 4H Camp Beckwith with about 30 members families and guests. Afterward a brief business session led by president Mrs Thelma Burgess discussed the children's Lighting Contest and approved a 23 contribution toward contest funds. Oak Hill garden clubs will sponsor the contest again. Judges were appointed for the Busy Bees 44H flower garden before month’s end.

Drunken brawl ends in fatal shooting at Hart's Creek

James Brumfield was killed by a shotgun blast to the back during a drunken brawl near Shively on Smokehouse Fork of Harts Creek. Elva Canley surrendered at State Police in Stallings and was jailed without charge. Conley, accused shooter, fled to the hills but later faced authorities.
