MYF Spiritual Growth Retreat Begins Today
The Senior Methodist Youth Fellowship of the Methodist Temple holds a spiritual growth retreat at the Pinegar Farrar Camp on the Greenbrier River. The event runs through Sunday with 25 youths attending including officers for the new year Sandra Reed president George Arnold vice president Janey Cooke secretary Jenny Wilkes treasurer Tamar Harrah publicity chair and others. Don Francis temple youth director accompanies the group.

Final Swim Course Set At Waterdale Pool
Final classes for water safety will be held at Waterdale Pool starting Monday. The program, run by the Raleigh County Red Cross chapter, will be taught by Mrs. H. H. Harvey and Miss Katherine Huddleston with eight-year-olds and older eligible.

Funeral Rites Planned for Mrs Maggs Watson
Funeral services will be held Saturday at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church East Park for Mrs Maggs Watson 73 who died Sunday in a state hospital. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. Survivors include daughter Mrs Ruth Harriston of Herndon and sister Mrs Emma Tapp of Huddle Mill NC. The body rests at C D Trent Funeral Home until the service.

Members of the vocational rehabilitation executive subcommittee from all counties met at the Beckley Elks Club to plan National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. Fifteen workers from Raleigh Wyoming and Summers counties attended. Nominees for chairmanship were reelected and final plans for the week would be set at the September general meeting.

White Oak Man West Funeral Plans in Jumping Branch
Funeral services for John Anderson West, 70, of White Oak, will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church in Beaver with Elders Eli Lilly and Kenna Lilly presiding. Burial follows at Vine Cemetery Jumping Branch. West died Thursday evening after a stroke, born March 16, 1887 in Raleigh County. He was a Primitive Baptist and Odd Fellows member, survived by brother James West and sister Mrs. Sarah Massey.

City Youth Hold Circus And Aid The Red Cross
Beckley youngsters from Pine Street performed a backyard circus to raise funds for the Raleigh County American Red Cross, earning 7.15 dollars from candy and drinks and donating it to the charity. Participants included Martha Surbrough, Nancy Snead, Paula Sue Williams, Sally Snead, Katey Jo Vargo, Donna O’Neill, and Philip O’Neill. Also reported are local injuries treated at Beckley Memorial Hospital and a lodge delegation to Bluefield.
