Fayette MOD Chairman Happy With Donations

Fayette County campaign chairman Pat R. Hamilton announced an additional 1255.70 in donations since March raising the total to 19821.03 for the March of Dimes drive. He noted last month 18565.38 was collected and expects the 1957 total to top 20000.

Harvey Woman Held On Assault Charge

A Harvey woman, Minnie Braxton, 3H, is jailed in Fayette County on a felonious assault charge after a peace warrant arrest by Constable Pearlie Elmore. She waived to the Grand Jury and is held on $500 bond. Also jailed are Alfonso Wolfe, 36, and Charles Levesay, Smithers, with Wolfe facing grand larceny charges and Levesay unable to post a peace bond.

Open House at Glen Rogers Grade School

Glen Rogers Grade School held an open house with visitors touring displays of student work. Principal Kelly Sizemore reported about 90 percent of families with children attended. lunch was served and souvenirs given by Mrs. Sizemore. Jesse W. Edmand Rhodes Treated After Charleston Hospital Incident

Ed mand Rhodes, 29, a West Virginia University senior, was treated at Charleston Memorial Hospital for scalp cuts after he says he was forced from his car and struck on the head Monday. His mother reports he failed to return home after hospital release and may be missing. No word has been received by authorities.

Harris Waives to Grand Jury in Manslaughter Case

Tommy Harris, 20, of Cunard waived to the grand jury on a manslaughter charge in a hearing before Magistrate Virgil Lyons. He posted a $500 appearance bond and faces trial for the death of Dennis F. Harper 50, of East Beckley after a collision on U S Route 21 near Chimney Corner at 5 45 p m Monday. Mrs Minnie Myers 53 and Mrs Mamie David 58, Beckley residents, were injured in the Harper vehicle. Harris was slightly hurt.

West Virginia agencies report 13 communities request federal aid for sewage treatment projects totaling about 2.87 million dollars. A point system prioritizes projects. only 891,000 dollars in federal aid will be distributed this year, with many applications possibly reduced or denied.

Oceana Council Discusses Sewage Plans

Oceana Town Council met at the town hall with Kelly Gibrey and Stabor Charleston, engineers, to discuss a city sewage system. They agreed to preliminarily plan by July and provide estimates on plant size footage pipe materials and costs. Mayor Manning said the system will address health hazards and stream pollution.

Parents Receive Word From Missing Boy

HINTON search for 15 year old Jackie Lee Palmer ended when his parents received a letter from him stating he was working in a grocery store in Sebring Florida. Palmer had disappeared March 3 after head injuries from a touch football game. The family, from Lowell Summers County, sparked a major police and civilian search with hopes he was alive.
