Laurel Gardeners Send Delegates To Convention

Laurel Garden Club members attended the West Virginia Garden Club session in Miami Florida and the national garden convention in session at The Greenbrier. Fourteen members represented the club with two new members welcomed, as officers and hosting duties were noted for the May meeting. Mrs Ralph Mays and co hostesses conducted the regular meeting with refreshments served. Mrs Paul Boland of Oak Hill is listed as hospital patient undergoing observation and treatment in Huntington Hospital.

Henry E Jones 75 of Scarbro died Monday at Fayetteville Nursing Home. Body is at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Home. arrangements incomplete.

Wyoming Courthouse Annex Contract To Be Awarded Soon

Wyoming County Court plans to award the annex contract for the courthouse by July 1 with bids opened May 7. The three story brick paneled structure, $200,000 estimate, will be built across the street and rear of the main building. Construction to proceed in stages, with two stories planned first, and a six percent supervising fee for Frampton and Bowers. The project funds rely on an old district road bond levy converted to general revenue, with $8,973.75 in the building fund and $64,480 expected from the levy this year, plus $75,000 annually for the next five years. The State Police will move to the new annex, which will also house the Health Department and several state and county agencies.

Leland Combs Dies In Oklahoma

Leland Jack Combs 36 formerly of Oak Hill died Monday in a Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City from poisonous fumes after extinguishing a fire on a long distance transport truck he was driving Relatives said his wife Virginia his sister Margaret Hoover Akron and another sister Dor othy Brown Oak Hill plus his mother Elsie Combs and brother Wilford Combs Akron Ohio survive Funeral services were incomplete today in Oak Hill Ohio and a plane trip was taken by three relatives to Oklahoma City for word of his death Also mentioned are horse racing notes about Gi Tio women owners at Hialeah with Calumet Farm and Wheatley Stables winning stakes

District Deputy Visits Pythian Sisters Lodge Oak Hill

District deputy Minnie Wallace visited Oak Hill Pythian Sisters Temple No. 1 for an inspection of the lodge. Beckley members Catherine Smith Annie Maggie Yost Kathleen Day Etta Callaway Bill Kincaid announced Kathryn Scott Scarbro will be initiated at the May 13 meeting. Twelve members attended and social hour refreshments were served by Maude James Sallie James and Frank Titlos.

Princeton Garden Club Receives Ritter Cup

The Bud and Blossom Garden Club of Princeton won the Ritter Cup, top WV Garden Club award, for outstanding community program. Charlesto n retiree presided as Mrs J W Hash presented to Mrs J E S Mann at a luncheon during the state club convention attended by over 30 garden clubs. the two day event closed this afternoon.

Wreck injures Beckley women. driver dies en route

Two Beckley women were injured in a two car collision on US 21 one and a half miles south of Chimney Corner at 5 45 PM Monday. Dennis F Harper 30 of East Beckley died en route to Oak Hill Hospital. Passengers Minnie Myers 33 sustained a broken ankle Mamie David 58 had a scalp cut and fractured right ankle. Tommy Harris 20 of Cunard sustained cuts to leg mouth and eye. Both cars totaled no charges yet pending investigation. Harper's body located at Dood Payne Mortuary Fayetteville. Arrangements incomplete. Officer names Sgt W R Seal and Troopers F W Line and D E Lake on scene.
