Miss Williams Rites Set Sunday

Funeral services for Miss Mary Lou Williams 19 of Cleveland Ohio, formerly of Matheny, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Matheny Methodist Church with Rev Orville Belcher of Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Stewart Cemetery Matheny. She died Tuesday in Cleveland from injuries in a head on crash involving another driver killed instantly. She was born August 16 1937 in Laura Virginia to Jack and Emma Williams. Survivors include her father in Kamich Idaho, her mother and stepfather Mr and Mrs Otto Morris Cleveland, and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Clint Craft Matheny. The body will be removed from Evans Funeral Home to the grandparents home at 5 p.m. today and stay there until the funeral.

Charles Wiley Joins Whitesville Lions Club

Charles Wiley of Horse Creek became a new member of the Whitesville Lions Club at a Tuesday night dinner meeting in the Whitesville Hotel. Wiley represents People's Life Insurance Company in the area. The club planned a talent show for May 10 with Harry Cooke and Bobby Plantz on the committee. Fifteen Lions were present at the gathering.

Edward Kincaid Hurt In Mine Mishap

Edward Kincaid 43 of Wingrove Bottom was admitted to Oak Hill Hospital after a work accident at New River Company mine in Oakwood. He, a motorman, suffered possible pelvis fracture and was treated around 1 30 p.m. as part of ongoing remodeling work at the site.

Four men died in a rock fall at a small Panther area coal mine in McDowell County. Funeral home officials named the victims as Junior Estep 25 owner of the operation Ance Estep 32 a relative Vester Lester 27 unmarried Johnny Patrick 19 unmarried and listed survivors including widows and children.

Death ruled unavoidable in Ansted highway tragedy

A coroner's jury ruled the Ansted Route 60 collision an unavoidable accident killing 70 year old Mrs Cleve Jarvis. She was struck at 7:30 p m Thursday by 16 year old Dean Bragg of Ansted as she stepped into the roadway near her husband’s store. The body lay at Thomas Funeral Home.

Pineville High School Holds An Evening Of Drama

The National Thespian Society at Pineville High presents An Evening Of Drama on April 20 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. The program features two one act plays including Army Call by Aviation Cadet Ralph Nelson. The six man cast includes Barney Basham and John Teel. Three performances are planned with a matinee for students, an evening show for the public, and a final Tuesday, April 30, event for district conventions. Special effects were ordered from New York City to enhance the production.

Minden School Claims Titles in Fayetteville Spelling Bee

Minden Elementary School won the Fayetteville District Spelling Bee titles with Ronald Zastawniak top on Tuesday night and Karen Scarbrough as runner up.
