Red Shirting Issue To Confront SC In May
West Virginia University plans to ban red shirting and the Southern Conference may debate the proposal at its May meeting with a likely vote in December. WVU, Pitt, Penn State and Syracuse had already agreed to limit a student athlete’s eligibility to four calendar years after enrolling as freshmen in 1961. A SC spokesman said the move aims to forestall abuse but not to form a new conference, and Duncan urged all schools to eventually adopt the ban.

Sachs to Use 2 Way Radio in 500 Mile Race
Detroit dispatch reports Eddie Sachs plans to win the 1962 Indianapolis 500 with a two way radio and psychology. He finished second in 1961 by six seconds to A J Foyt, citing mental blocks and pit coordination as factors. Sachs seeks faster pace aided by telemetry and crew talks, hoping to avoid fuel and tire issues that slowed him last year. If victorious, he vows not to race again or even warm up a car.
