Fox president of the Bituminous Coal Operators' Assn. told a joint WV Coal Mining Institute and Pittsburgh section of the AIME meeting that productivity gains remain the primary method to offset higher wages. Gerald Mickey of Raleigh was fined 100 dollars plus costs for driving while intoxicated and 50 dollars plus costs for unlawful possession of moonshine whisky at Mabscott Police Court. Hubert Ray Walters of Mabscott paid 20 dollars plus costs for speeding before Mayor James Sparacino. One intoxicated charge resulted in a 25 dollar fine. Young John Wilson of Crab Orchard will find a happy homecoming after a power company employee climbed a light pole to rescue his pet cat, missing since Tuesday. The cat was spotted Thursday atop the pole and had resisted prior efforts to retrieve it. Mrs. Wilson notes their milk supply was rapidly depleted during the ordeal.

Space Capsule Hunt in Arctic near Spitsbergen
A small fleet of US Air Force planes will search Arctic waters and ice around the Spitsbergen Archipelago for the Discoverer TL capsule ejected from the satellite Discoverer II. Norwegian Lt. Col J C B Ebbesen said the hunt targets sea ice north of Norway while capsule presumed to have landed off a Norwegian island. Thomas Brash, 83, of Glen Morgan, died Friday in a Beckley hospital after a long illness. Born July 28, 1875 in Pennsylvania, he was a C and O Railway conductor until retiring in 1950. Survived by five sons, two daughters, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending at Keyser Bryant Funeral Home.

Two Transients Lodged In Raleigh County Jail
