47 Car N&W Train Derails Injuring One
A 47 car Norfolk and Western freight derailed at Blake five miles east of Bluefield injuring one man who leapt from the train. Blakeman James A. No. 2 State Policeman To Resi on May 29
Mason Altare, second in command of the West Virginia State Police, has announced his retirement effective May 29. Altare joined the police unit in July 1935 and prior to his appointment as inspector major in 1961, he commanded the South Charleston and Beckley company headquarters. The mandatory retirement age for state policemen is 55 and Altare will reach that age on Memorial Day. At a special luncheon for him at statehouse headquarters on Thursday Altare said he and his wife have no definite plans for the future.
