Logan Circuit Judge C C Chambers refused to intervene in the expulsion of Alonzo Murphy from Logan High School. He denied a petition for a writ of mandamus to reinstate Murphy so he could receive his diploma in May. Murphy, 18, was expelled March 31 after a March 28 arrest for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
President Johnson toured Indiana disaster sites and pledged aid after Palm Sunday tornadoes killed 236, injured over 2,000, and left thousands homeless as he flew in from Washington to inspect damage and console communities.
President Johnson planned to fly to Minnesota to view the Mississippi floodwaters as melting snow and ice jams push the river toward a crest higher than seen in 1952 and 1881. More than 31,000 people fled their homes across Minnesota and neighboring states, with damage in the millions.

Welch, West Virginia, approved as a neighborhood youth center site by the Labor Department. Labor Secretary Wirtz announced 39 new centers in 19 states, bringing total to 237 projects in 45 states. Welch will receive 73,400 dollars to run the center serving 12,048 youths with 3.6 million dollars federally funded.
