Women Golfers Plan Activities at White Oak Club

White Oak Country Club women opened the year with a luncheon at Oak Hill. Mrs. B C Burnside led a brief business session, with Miss Nancy Hannabas as secretary and Mrs. W B Rocke as treasurer. The group plans Friday morning golf at 10 and a luncheon, plus a program by club pro Stanley Zontex.

Hylton Jr Addresses Whitesville Lions Club

Charles D. Hylton Jr. of the Logan Lions Club spoke to 16 Whitesville Lions members about his candidacy for Governor of District 291V. He is deputy district governor and Logan Cubs coach manager, and was introduced by fellow Logan Club members. The Whitesville club announced signage fundraising at town entrances. Ted Bsharah presided.

Mullens High School Band Members Receive Service Pins

Six graduating Mullens High School Band members were awarded service pins at the annual Band Banquet in the MHS cafeteria. Director Ray Richards presented pins to Barbara Akers Sondra Ashley Earlene Elmore Winona Clark Ercelle Courington J and Wayne Gregg as about 70 band members and parents looked on. Guest speaker was Donald L. Bauschbach, assistant professor of music and band director at Morris Harvey College. The event was hosted by the Christian Woman's Fellowship of the First Christian Church and concluded with a dance in the auditorium.

Whitesville council reviews paving and water plant plans

Whitesville spent about 1200 on street and alley paving in March as part of total bills of 5214.93. The council discussed a new Sanitary Board, water sewage plant funding, road right of way issues, street lighting approval, tax collections, hydrant relocation, and a May 11 meeting with a special session to pass the Water Sewage Plant ordinance.

Budding Scientists to Exhibit at Kanawha Valley Science Fair

About 392 exhibits from 24 junior and senior high schools will debut at West Virginia Tech in Montgomery. The senior high division features 183 projects in biology chemistry and physics and mathematics with a grand prize sending the winner to the National Science Fair in Los Angeles in May. General Science draws 209 entries from 14 junior high schools. Awards will be given for first through third in General Science and senior categories. Judges include West Virginia State faculty and local professionals. the program begins at 2 15 p.m. in the Little Theatre.

Youth at Mount Hope Injures Arm in School Jump

Leonard Hewlett, 14, of Mount Hope was treated at Beckley Memorial Hospital for a broken left forearm after jumping off a springboard during a physical education class. He is the son of Mr and Mrs James A Hewlett. Treatment recorded at 12 50 p.m.

Scarbro teachers aid with spaghetti dinner funds

The Scarbro Patent Teachers Association hosted a spaghetti dinner at Scarbro Grade School Friday night raising 78 dollars for new cafeteria equipment. Mrs William Price led refreshments while Circle No 2 of White Oak Church plans a 7 30 meeting today with Mrs Ben Gooch.
