Garden Seed Program Progress In West Virginia
Agriculture Commissioner John T. Johnson announced the garden seed program is valued at about a million dollars and will aid unemployed West Virginians. About 22,000 seed packets are being distributed across the state to needy families to support small gardens and food needs. Johnson praised two years of success and noted eligibility rules remain the same as in prior years. The first seed distribution, with Beckley Ice and Feed Co. involvement, marked the start of the effort in Beckley as the 1962 Legislature provided funding to cover costs.
