Employers of Labor Asked How Many to Help Farmers
After a conference with Judge Albert Akers the Adams county circuit court, the Chamber of Commerce authorized a plan to recruit workers for harvest. Pierson sent 1,000 letters to Quincy employers and will tour local firms to gauge how many workers can be spared for the big grain crop. The plan aims to use the Federal Employment Bureau to distribute labor without charge and to prevent shortages. The nationwide effort, led by the United States Employment Service, seeks to mobilize both government offices and business groups to redirect workers where needed during wartime.
