Judge FitzHenry Denies New Wolf Trial in Federal Case
Federal court in Quincy hands written opinion by Judge Louis FitzHenry denying Fred Wolf Sr. and son Paul a new trial. The decision addresses 23 assignments challenging trial rulings on evidence and indictment in a conspiracy to defraud the United States through leather equipment contracts with the War Department and government perf ormance of contracts. The opinion upholds that the conspiracy was continuing, that evidence of pre January 15 1918 acts was permissible, and that the jury could consider Pelgen's statements and other competent testimony. The verdict is sustained by the evidence and the court outlines four possible verdict forms.
