Nara Visa Borehole Plans Gain Support for DOE Drilling
Officials told residents and the Quay County Commission that exploratory boreholes reaching 3 miles would not involve nuclear waste. DOSECC's Marc Eckles hosted a public meeting as Enercon Federal Services President Peter Mast and COSECC's Dennis Nielson outlined the plan. The commission authorized bidding for a contract with the energy department, with four other bidders in the race. Mast stressed the DOE aims to locate a potential site for radioactive waste but does not intend the Nara Visa location to host such materials. Eckles noted DOE involvement and that drilling will proceed as part of site evaluation.
