Mesalands College Faces Financial Strain and Staffing Changes
MCC Moss says Mesalands remains near break even while reconciling old accounts including ADP payroll data. The college faced overspending in 2022 23 that threatened payroll, prompted pay cuts and program eliminations, and sparked no confidence votes against former president Gregory Busch who resigned. A forthcoming 2023 audit is expected to improve but not perfect, with state auditors visiting this week. The board approved a $100 monthly lease for the Alco building to the Mesalands Foundation, added Rachelle Arias as bank signatory, and outlined wind energy training for inmates with simulators and eventual wind turbine work. Commencement is May 10 with 54 graduates. the Iron Pour returns May 19 24 after a COVID gap. Paulita's New Mexico is exiting the armory lease, and new head rodeo coach Segerman aims to rebuild the program after Hughes left for Missouri State West Plains. The college will meet Tucumcari Schools’ new superintendent Marano this week.

Four to six tickets sold at City Hall for the convention center shows while Mesalands reported no ticket sales through Tuesday. Community events drew families with games, food trucks, a mechanical bull, and Mariachi Elvis, amid hope free entry would boost out of town visitors and turnout.
