A resident urged action on the closed Tucumcari City Pool prompting the city commission and manager to discuss a bond for repairs or replacement. The pool has been idle since 2019 with ongoing leak costs and a state loan balance of about 60 thousand dollars due in 2026.
The Tucumcari Rawhide Days festival returned with visitors enjoying a Texas longhorn cattle drive along Route 66, cowboy demonstrations, live music, chuckwagon vittles, and new features at the railroad plaza plus a film festival and livestock show. Organizer Karen Alarcon praised the weekend as wonderful with ample compliments.
The Rockin Route 66 festival in Tucumcari New Mexico canceled for a third straight year due to Covid impacts and city changes. Organizers posted on social media this morning expressing regret and aim for a healthy return in Tucumcari. City officials had warned the city festival situation on Page 3A.
A grass fire estimated at over 5 000 acres pushed to the edge of the village of House in Quay County on Friday forcing evacuations and delaying the district prom. The blaze stretched seven to eight miles west of House and crossed Oak Street briefly before being contained by 5 30 p m. No injuries or destroyed structures were reported though fences and pasture were damaged. Firefighters from multiple agencies aided with road district support from nearby counties. The cause is under investigation.
