Sixth NM racino license faces delay amid reforms and industry decline
Trejo says no talks on a sixth license with the New Mexico Racing Commission. Coronado Partners proposes a Tucumcari racino expected to employ 500 and generate up to 55 million dollars in revenue by 2025. The commission’s licensing has been unsettled by injunctions, governance changes, and races amid COVID-19 and sports betting shifts. Trejo warns issuing such a license now would harm the industry and suggests delaying the process for a feasibility study, potentially for a year or two.
