In a five week effort the Pinata Fiesta drew crowds to the Tucumcari Convention Center parking lot with 97 degree heat. Over 300 attendees bought tickets to dance to Str8 Shot and Cuarenta Y Cinco in the main ballroom. Scott Crotzer praised volunteers from the New Mexico Music Showcase and city staff for making the revived event possible after the COVID pause.

More charges filed against murder suspect Tyre Garrett
The Tucumcari case adds felony tampering with evidence and a misdemeanor illegal receipt possession or transportation of a firearm by a person convicted of battery against a household member. Tyre Garrett 42 faces these charges after the May 28 shooting of Michael Arellano 46 on Quay Road 63 on Tucumcari west side. Arellano died at Trigg Memorial Hospital. Garrett was captured about an hour later and jailed in Quay County.

Iron Pour festival in Tucumcari adds two day format
Mesalands Community College retools its Iron Pour for 2021 with two pouring sessions. Thursday evening focuses on small sand molds by residents and amateurs, while Friday midday hosts professional artists including a guest from England. The event runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at Building D, South 11th Street, Tucumcari, with a Wednesday art-show reception at the Railroad Museum depot and about 45 participants earning three credits for week-long participation.
