Former Tucumcari athlete Amber Campbell competes in 2012 Olympics
Amber Campbell, a former Tucumcari resident, qualified for the London Games after winning the Olympic trials in Beaverton Oregon. She placed 21st in Beijing 2008 with a 222 feet hammer throw and set a personal best of 235 feet 6 inches on June 21 to earn a 2012 spot.

City to use federal grant for street projects
The city will use a 480000 U S Department of Housing and Urban Development grant to replace water lines service connections and street paving from Main Street to Heman Avenue and Adams Street to Rock Island in the Dobbs addition. City Manager Doug Powers says work will occur simultaneously to avoid overtime and patching. Misty Gulley notes the funding comes from a Community Development Block Grant and a 50000 city match plus 12399 in in kind labor and equipment. Completion is expected 90 days after grant agreement and bid award. the project aims to upgrade water infrastructure before problems arise.

The Ninth Annual Santa Fe International Folk Art Market drew more than 150 artists from 49 countries. Preliminary figures show about 2.4 million dollars in sales, up from 2.3 million last year. Opening night Friday brought in 59,600 dollars between 6:30 and 9 p.m.
