Ute Lake State Park hosts the second annual Prairie Fest with Kiowa legends and night sky telescope explorations. Park officials highlight eastern plains ecology, with events from a prairie grass water fight to native crafts and star stories at the beach near the boat ramp.
Tucumcari Mayor Antonio Apodaca faces one count of cruelty to animals after allegations he dragged a dog behind a car on April 19. The pretrial conference was continued due to the prosecutor's absence. the officer handling the case is Clay Cullison and the district attorney will not prosecute. The next hearing is set for two to four weeks.
Officials say a Taser incident involving a juvenile resulted in charges against Martinez for domestic battery and resisting, evading and obstructing an officer. CYFD will determine if the case proceeds, opting for family services over judicial action. Akin reported being hit during a struggle over a phone, with the daughter later found in a city park and the officer stating the taser was used after the youth refused to stop and ran into the street.
