Former Logan manager Larry Wallin dies at 67

Larry Wallin longtime Logan village manager died Saturday from cancer at age 67 surrounded by family. His funeral set for 10 am Thursday in Logan High School gym with lunch in the cafeteria. Warren Frost recalled Wallin as instrumental in shaping eastern New Mexico, praising his fiscal care and common sense as village administrator Rodney Paris called him an irreplaceable resource.

Turnout exceeds expectations for Tucumcari July 4 parade

Organizers led by Bobby Hockaday expected about 15 entries for Tucumcari’s first July 4 parade in years but drew 39 official entries and more than 80 units along Route 66. The event surpassed early hopes, prompting plans to improve next year.

Tucumcari Farmers Market Opens With New Manager

The Tucumcari Farmers Market starts its season at 10 a.m. Saturday in Wailes Park with manager Jenna Stanger overseeing 15 to 17 vendors. Despite hail and grasshopper damage reducing offerings, the market will feature locally raised beef garlic beans sourdough bread and more and includes a 50 50 raffle through noon. The market runs Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays at 5 30 p.m. through Oct 19 with events planned including a treasure hunt Kids Day cookout live music and more. Kathleen Box had been slated to manage but died May 12 at 70. Stanger has stepped in while balancing a paralegal job.

Quay County ICIP prioritizes courthouse upgrades and a new hospital

The Quay County Commission approved the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan prioritizing courthouse window replacement and HVAC upgrades, with $30 million earmarked for Trigg Memorial Hospital. The plan seeks state and federal funding, including $10 million in state funds and $20 million sought from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Other FY2026 items include vehicle gear, a transport truck, loader, backhoe, and a $1 million watershed restoration.
