Retiring undersheriff honored with valor medal
Quay County officials surprised retiring undersheriff Russell Shafer with a Medal of Valor awarded by Sheriff Dennis Garcia for actions during a May 14 officer involved shooting near Quay. Four deputies responded to Aubrey Osteen at his home, where a gunfight occurred injuring Garcia. Osteen waved the weapon toward Shafer on body cam video.

Down at the Depot heats Tucumcari shoppers and cops
Hot Friday at the Tucumcari Historic Railroad Plaza drew a 99 degree crowd for the Down at the Depot event. Joanne Thompson handed popsicles to Lexi Holt as community members sold treats to raise about $2,000 for cooling vests for police officers. Bakersfield Twang played as patrons enjoyed brisk popsicle sales. The next event is slated for July 26.

Independence Day events to unfold in Tucumcari Logan and San Jon
Tucumcari plans a Fourth of July parade at 10 a.m. starting Lake Street and ending at the Tucumcari Convention Center with prize entries and online signup. Fireworks set for dusk behind the Elks Lodge on South Adams Street. Logan hosts a 7:30 p.m. Missouri band at Ute Lake marina, plus a Craft Fair at the American Legion hall 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Logan’s Red White and Ute celebration begins Saturday with a 10 a.m. parade on Second and Third streets.

Tucumcari City Commission approved a 60000 contract with Tucumcari Main Street after debate over funding sources.
