Eight months to restore EDC nonprofit status in Tucumcari
The Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corp. faces an eight month IRS backlog to reinstate its federal nonprofit status, with early 2025 as the target. Interim director Kristine Olsen cites tax consequences of postcard reinstatement and notes a lack of funding transfers from City of Tucumcari and Quay County. A Johnson & Sheldon contract remains pending a quorum. In other business, Film Tucumcari may present FilmApp to boost local filmmaking, with estimated $28,000 listing costs and potential $60,000,000 in climate loans being explored for Tucumcari, Las Vegas, and Melrose. A pedestrian safety meeting is planned July 26 at the Railroad Depot, and a free business legal workshop is set for July 10.

Infrastructure concerns headline Tucumcari talks with Lujan
City manager Paula Chacon outlined plans to redevelop the long closed Tucumcari Truck Terminal site requiring miles of new sewer pipes and lift stations. Bids for Phase 1 of the wastewater reuse project exceeded the budget, and COVID relief funds sit unused for a clinic lift near KOA campground. Sen. Ben Ray Lujan noted about 338 million in federal infrastructure aid for New Mexico and offered to pursue grants while urging a congressional letter.
