Man builds off-grid solar home near Tucumcari New Mexico
Robert Carr and his wife Nancy are constructing a 1,300 square foot self-sustaining house north of Tucumcari designed for maximal solar use. The home features gray water systems, composting toilet, rainwater and well filtration, recycled fixtures from Amarillo Re-Store, tire wall shielding, high ceilings, large south-facing windows and plans for both passive solar and photovoltaic power. Carr aims to live on Social Security with monthly expenses under 600 dollars, funded by off-grid energy and growing produce hydroponically.
