Princeton Borough Eyes Higher Fire Classification For Lower Rates

The Princeton Borough Council weighs moving from class E to D fire classification to lower insurance costs. Chairman George Karch says underwriters support the change with about 7000 dollars needed for equipment upgrades. Net costs could be repaid in under two years, though exact savings depend on total borough fire insurance. Continued on Page Three.

Lions Hold Special Christmas Party at Nassau Tavern

The Princeton Lions Club hosted a Christmas dinner meeting at Nassau Tavern on December 20 with Carlton E. Sturdy discussing a leading industry. Mike Underwood and Russell Riker won necktie drawings, gifts ranged from gum to teething rings and cigars, and John Archer joined the Sacred Order of the Yellow Dog. Ralph Kimble spoke on the Christ Child as part of the season observance.

Matthews Excavation Bid Won for Witherspoon School Project

The Princeton Borough School Board awarded the excavation bid to Matthews Construction Company of Princeton at 2675.00, the lowest of five bids from The George Hardy Company, VanHorn Company, The New General Construction Company, and The International Excavating Company. The project, funded 45 percent by a federal Public Works Administration grant, totals about 190000 with work to begin before year end and foundations to be bid soon.

Baker Rink Open to Public on Specified Evenings

Princeton University will open Baker Rink for public skating from 8 to 10 pm on designated evenings through winter. When hockey games run late skating extends one hour after game end. Admission is 40 cents. children sessions Saturdays 9:30 to 11:30 am cost 25 cents from Dec 24 to Mar 4, excluding Feb 11.

Nassau Street Driveway Plans For Nassau Street School

Princeton Public School officials state that no part of the Elementary School Playground will be used for a new driveway from Nassau Street to William. The drive is not a public road and will operate only before school, at noon, and after school with supervision. It aims to reduce traffic tie ups and hazards around the school.

Shrine Club Christmas Party Attracts Crowd

The Shrine Club held its Annual Children's Christmas Party at the Garden Theatre at 3:00 p m with special children s movies and candy for all attendees. Firemen aided police in crowd control and candy distribution. Committee chair Morris Maple led the arrangements with Howard Williamson Anthony Trevetola and Earl Yeoman.

Christmas Shop Gratitude From South Orange-M Maplewood School

The Social Service Bureau Christmas Shop thanks donors and volunteers who enabled 255 children from Princeton and nearby areas to receive toys candy and oranges. Enrollment Surges in New Jersey Adult School Project

The South Orange Maplewood Adult School expanded from 200 to about 2000 students since 1933, offering 92 courses this term. Enrollment rose despite tuition, with classes run by volunteers and university professors, featuring forums with governors and ambassadors. the program spans South Orange and Maplewood.

Princeton YMCA directors plan the annual Father and Son Dinner for late January.
