Stanford Conn June 24 Waldo R Ballou prominent city councilman was found beaten to death near the residence of Mrs Helen M Angell a wealthy widow of 42 She was arrested amid sensational reports as footprints led from the body to her door Ballou had visited her but she denied knowledge of the death Evidence included bloodstained waist and shirt and footmark measurements as officers checked if a man or woman climbed the stairs The case drew a large crowd and police guarded the scene while investigations continued
