A store touts the dollar’s increased buying power from 48 cents to about 1.33 to 1.50 in merchandise. Shoppers plan to keep fighting high prices until costs reflect real value as they seek more from every dollar spent.

A Republican sub committee adopted a four paragraph treaty plank for the national platform. It condemns the present form of the League, commends senators who voted against the pact, states any foreign accord must align with American policy, and supports an international court for dispute resolution. No ratification endorsement is included.
The resolutions committee voted to recess until 1 p m to let the sub committee finish the League of Nations and Mexican policy planks amid protests from six or more dissenting members. Senators Oldham and Watson warned against a last minute rush and public discussion of sensitive points. The sub committee denied any plan to rubber stamp the platform.
The W C T U held a June 9 service at the county infirmary to mark Miss Jennie Cassidy birthday anniversary. Rev John Phillips led devotion with Owensville and Monroeville participants. readings, a duet, and a closing hymn followed. Sixty people from Owensville King's Station and Princeton Unions attended and inmates received magazines flowers candies and oranges.
Mason Killion of Washington Indiana chairs the White River improvement body and has set a meeting at Washington city hall for Tuesday June 15. Representatives from six counties will attend as each county selects three committeemen to form a permanent organization.
The Thursday club gathered at Mrs. Alonzo Morrison's home for a sewing program. Members offered dress form making tips, with Nell Morrison delivering an instrumental solo and Dora Ford reading. Children enjoyed games by Mrs. Gilbert Schultze. refreshment guests enjoyed ice cream and cake. The next meeting is set for Friday June 18 at Miss Minnie Hyneman's home with pickle recipe as response.
The marriage of Miss Walstein Beatrice Haskett to Paul Daugherty occurred this morning in Vincennes. Mrs. Daugherty is the only daughter of Mrs. Albert Rafferty and has worked at the Citizens Trust and Saving Bank. Mr. Daugherty is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Daugherty of East Broadway. they plan to reside in the city.

The Redpath company provides a bigger 60 by 100 foot oblong tent with new seats and stage equipment for the coming chautauqua season. The audience will face a larger stage, center poles removed, and Sunday rest observed with no program.

Ben Watt of this city has been elected principal of Princeton High School to replace B. W. Cockrum who resigns to join Evansville schools. Watt, Princeton high school and Wabash College graduate, is a World War II lieutenant who played baseball and football in school. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Robert Watt. His athletic background is expected to aid his school leadership.
Democratic party leaders travel to French Lick Indiana to confer with Thomas Taggart former senator and potential presidential timber for November. Governor Smith of New York and other Tam many leaders expected to arrive for talks and rest with Taggart as Cronies. The gathering signals possible strategy ahead of the San Francisco convention.
Chicago, June 10. Convention leaders will push for final platform action tonight with an all night session likely. If no floor fight shortens the meeting, speeches will be delayed and the first ballot could occur Friday afternoon. The Mexican plank reaffirms US protection without obligating the United States.
The Republican convention met for 13 minutes and recessed to allow the resolution committee to finalize the platform draft. McCormick presented the agreement, a vote leaned against adjournment, and the motion passed as spectators remained seated and bands played before dispersing. California Ohio Illinois and western delegates opposed the recess while the East Old Guard supported it.
