Mrs Dessie Ma a trained nurse at Deaconess hospital Indianapolis is spending a two weeks vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs Virgil Marsh in Patoka during a short hometown visit.
Former Terre Haute city clerk George H. Years pleaded guilty to embezzling city funds before Judge Barles Pulliam. Judgment was deferred to June 21 at Fears request. State board figures show Years took about 82,000 from city accounts.
Wesley Stewart of the Southern freight office suffers a right foot injury after a member was mashed. The incident leaves him unable to work. He receives treatment and is expected to recover.
At Chicago on June 9 the Republican convention elected Senator Lodge as permanent chairman after adopting committee reports and brief sessions. Chauncey Depew fueled revival sentiment with barbed attacks on the Democrats, and Margaret McCarty became the first woman speaker at a national convention. The hall surged with applause before adjournment.
June reports the Republican convention still awaiting capture while early enthusiasm wanes. The Old Guard is broken, Roosevelt is gone, and no clear successor has emerged to fill the vacant leadership roles. Glee clubs and bands are hired to lift spirits, but the effect is limited.
The Service Aviation Co aircraft carried passengers from the Carey farm west of the city to Vincennes for two days of staged flights this week. Pilot Capt E E Cochran won wide cheer in the city. In addition to those named earlier Mrs A P Carey Horace Hitch Kyril Ford 16 son of Mr and Mrs Dale Ford and Margaret Katharine Stormont 10 daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Stormont enjoyed rides and express desire to fly again.
In Baton Rouge on June 9 the Louisiana Senate defeated a resolution to ratify the federal suffrage amendment with a 22 to 19 vote to indefinitely postpone. The outcome does not end suffrage efforts, as a duplicate resolution in the House could return the measure to the Senate for final action. Miss Elizabeth Resener of Swayzee Indiana is visiting Mr and Mrs Frank.
Chicago Republicans push to the national convention a demand that the Lowden money bag scandal be aired. Mayor Thompson leads Cook County resolutions urging delegates to oppose Governor Lowden and disassociate from any purchased nomination. The move targets money used to obtain the presidency and calls for accountability at the national convention.
Vincennes Indiana officials plan for the state convention and regional reunion expecting 4000 visitors. Lodges offer rooms and hundreds of cots. a fair price commissioner will curb inflated charges with a complaint desk at the Y M C A. The Pennsylvania battleship band will appear under Ralph Jordan, with Evansville talks to bring a preopening performance by Louis Robbins.
The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jennings died Tuesday night at their home in the B. M. A. addition. He was 13 days old. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at the home with burial in the I O O F cemetery.
Geneva reports the Italian cabinet has resigned according to a Rome dispatch. Mr and Mrs Claude Traylor were in the city en route to St Louis after visiting Dr and Mrs Gowan in Oakland City.
In Lafayette Indiana on June 9 the Purdue Alumni Association raised 10000 in minutes for life and sustaining memberships during a major university meeting. George A. Ross and Macy S. Good led a fervent appeal as classes rose to pledge. The rapid response marked an unprecedented show of alumni loyalty to Purdue.
Miss Olive Emmerson married Rev H C Chiard Tuesday at the Emmerson home near Owensville. The couple, graduates of Taylor University, will honeymoon in the East and Canada before settling in Dayton Ohio.
Miss Fannie Herschel comes back to Vincennes after visiting in this city as a guest of her sister Mrs Sam Spence. She is accompanied home by her nephew Jack Spence.
