In Indianapolis on June 8 United Press reports Indiana faces a draft horse shortage blamed on pro tractor propaganda. Dr E L Northup the state veterinarian says farmers will struggle to sell three year colts and notes rising prices per horse as tractors encroach.
Appeals sent to Indiana farmers to recover all quail eggs for incubation at the State Game Experiment Station. Farmers to inspect nests and send eggs to Fred Hasselman at the Waveland station. shipment costs covered.

Chicago audience hears Senator Lodge deliver keynote as Henry Tabor Lodge is named temporary chairman. Delegates fill Coliseum as rules resolutions and credentials committees take shape, while crowds cheer Hays and the band plays. Opening session ends with Lodge elected and plans for platform drafting underway.
Mrs Mary A Tucker aged 68 wife of Harrison Tucker died at home after a short illness in Owensville Indiana. She is survived by two sons Gus and Levi Tucker. Funeral services were held at the home by Revs Koeth and Barrett. Burial will be at Eckersly.
Thomas W. Cullen was unanimously elected president of the city school board for a three year term at the council meeting. C. S. Senil remains treasurer and Harvey Milburn remains secretary. Cullen has six years on the board, including one year as a member and five as president.
Washington June 8. The last remaining hope of the wets rested with Congress today. Drys claim Congress can set alcoholic contents and may raise the one half of 1 percent limit under the Volstead act. The wets acknowledge the possibility but fear later court action could cut it off.
City newspaper men joined Frank ONeal of Francisco and 14 year old Marjorie Weese in a Canadian Curtis airplane operated by Serv ice Aviation Company with Capt E E Cochran as pilot. Marjorie, eager for the ride, enjoyed the trip shortly after 11 o clock Tuesday morning. LL. &. Cook served as airplane mechanic. Flights will continue until darkness tonight.
A Democrat writer flies at 2000 feet to view a Patoka fire but reaches the scene after the blaze is out. The piece describes a calm, scenic airborne ride and notes four teen Boy Scout teams distributing Salvation Army pledge blanks as part of a local drive to fund a citadel and emergency facilities.
Field work by the Indiana Department of Conservation division of geology reveals structures favorable to oil and gas accumulation in Washington Jackson and Warrick counties with the search extended to Vanderburgh Jackson Washington Warrick Lawrence and Orange counties. Dr W N Logan state geologist announced the results.
George Soller, local contractor, secured the city street oiling contract at 614 cents per square yard during the Monday city council meeting. H M Morgan’s bid, higher by a half cent, was rejected. Residents hope oiling begins soon though no start date was set. Soller also holds a county oiling contract in Vanderburg.
Chicago dispatch reports a renewed intra party fight between Governor James F. Goodrich and Senator James E. Watson over the chair of the resolutions committee. Watson claims backing from leaders and Penrose while Mills is favored for the post. Indiana GOP unity hangs on the outcome as tensions rise.
The Emily Pickrell residence on North Main street Patoka caught fire from a defective flue Tuesday between 10 and 11. A hole burned in the shingle roof of the rear summer kitchen. Nearby Dixie Eye surveyors helped extinguish the blaze since Patoka lacks a fire department.
