Preston schools plan a two week fall vacation for grades 7 to 12 starting Oct 3 under Supt Harland Simmons. Mexican laborers are being recruited to augment local workers for slicing at the Franklin County Sugar Company factory.

County Duroc Entries Top Honor Winners At Blackfoot Fair
Franklin county earned top honors in dairy contests and 4 H judging at the Eastern Idaho State fair in Blackfoot. W R Fisher and Sons of Oxford showed Idaho's Superba King a 850 pound two year old boar winning first in his class, with other entries placing second through fourth. Superba King also claimed grand champion at the Utah Centennial State fair in August. Hog displays filled the swine barns and 90 percent of the hogs were Durocs, according to Wade Wells the state swine specialist and judge.

Frank Jones Named Safeway Manager at Preston Store
Frank Jones of Logan arrives to take over as manager of the Preston Safeway, replacing Jack George who managed during 1946. Jones, a Logan native, served seven years with Safeway, three in the army as a bombardier with the Eighth Air Force, including 11 months overseas and a German prison camp, bailed out near Hamburg on New Year’s Eve 1944, and plans to relocate his family to Preston once a home is found. Steve Later and Cal Shepherd, both Safeway veterans, assisted in the transfer. George and Shepherd are veterans of the last war and both resign this week.

Rural Mail Routes Change Oct 1 Postmaster Announces
Postmaster Hale Hart announces rural route No 2 will be extended on Oct 1 to serve Mink Creek, replacing the Preston Mink Creek route to reduce travel by 20 miles daily and cut mail delivery costs about 681.23 dollars yearly. The new plan uses rural route No 1 to cover the southwest Preston area after a department survey by the first assistant postmaster general.

Rifle Shoot Sunday Delivers Fine Scores at Preston Club
The Preston Rifle Club held a Sunday shoot with about 150 members participating. Top shooters included Pete Jorgensen Emory Belnap Virgil Larsen Roy Sorensen Louis Bowers and the Jorgensen family. Fish transplant at Strongarm Reservoir aids county waters
Bud Ainsworth and Ed Scholes led a crew to remove about 2 000 trout and 3 000 bass from Strongarm Reservoir. Fish were replanted in Bear River and various reservoirs near Oxford and Swan Lake as the dam undergoes repairs. Weather showers accompanied the operation and three large fish were lost. The Strongarm project aims to raise the dam height by four feet after draining the reservoir for outlet-pipe work and will restock once waters reopen.

Homecoming week features a large parade in Preston with Rigby High School students and football squads joining the event.
