Eastside School District Plans $400,000 Bond Sale

The Eastside school district announces a bond sale to finance a new high school addition. Sealed bids due Oct 18 at 8 p m in the high school office for $400,000 in general obligation bonds dated July 1, 1954. Bonds issued as 18 year notes with up to 3.5 percent interest, bidder must provide a 5 percent certified check or cash deposit. failure to complete purchase within 10 days forfeits deposit.

Beet Sugar Hearings Attended by Heath Thomas Heath

Heath Thomas Heath general manager of the Franklin County Sugar Co leaves Sunday for Washington to meet with sugar cane refiners and producers from Louisiana Hawaii and Puerto Rico. He will join the beet sugar seven man legislative committee to press for renewal or amendment of the 1956 act and seek a higher domestic beet quota to allow more acreage.

Game Warden Warns Know Your Grouse No Open Season

Franklin county conservation officer Ed Scholes warns hunters there will be no open season for sharptail grouse or sage hen. He urges hunters to identify grouse before shooting noting sharptail tails lighter and shorter with near white underfeathers. The species inhabit lower brush areas, and the season opened Saturday and ends Sunday night.

Freshman Initiation Parade At Preston High

Freshman initiation at Preston High School began Wednesday September 15 with a play day. Freshmen dressed as fishermen and carried shoe shining kits in baskets as games entertained the student body. Seniors and male faculty won a tug of war against the men. junior girls defeated seniors in another tug of war. Thursday featured freshmen girls dressed as boys and boys dressed as girls. Friday the student body continued activities.

Lt George Howell New Jet Pilot at Bryan AFB Texas

Lt George Howell, son of Mr and Mrs R G Howell of Preston, graduated from basic jet pilot school at Bryan AFB Texas and earned the silver wings. He previously earned a BS in business administration from Utah State College in June 1953 and entered USAF training in October 1953. He is to report for advanced jet training after a delay en route.

Franklin county district scouts and explorer posts plan to reregister next week with Oneida stake meeting on the 29th and Franklin stake on Sept 30 in stakehouses. Willis Burton and William A. Preston FFA Judging Team Wins Holstein Event at Blackfoot Fair

The Preston chapter FFA judging team captured first place in Holstein dairy judging at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot. Members Larry Larsen DeLos Bennett and Walter Knapp led the Preston squad to 544 of 600 points, with Knapp the high overall dairy scorer and Bennett tied for top Holstein honors.

Bear Lake Hunters Injured In Jeep Crash On Cub River Road

Four men from Bear Lake county were injured Saturday night when their jeep overturned on Cub river road while returning from a chicken hunt. Driver Wayne Nye of Paris, 28, was hospitalized with a possible bladder injury. William Rich suffered a cut body and punctured bladder. Preston Thomas fractured shoulder and arm, Robert Mattison fractured arm. all were treated and released earlier in the week except Nye who remained in hospital with improving condition this morning.

Murder Charge Filed After Fatal Shot Wounding Brother
