Woolf Receives Nursing Scholarship at Ricks College
Arlene Woolf daughter of Sherman and Theas Woolf received a 125 scholarship and letters of acceptance to Ricks College Rexburg. She graduated Preston High School where she played in the band pep band and Spanish club, earned a music award, and graduated from Seminary in 1956. She is one of 13 girls in a 21 month nursing program at Ricks.

Franklin county student trains with Soil Conservation Service
William Howard Hawkes, engineering student at the USA, trains with the U S Soil Conservation Service in Franklin district this summer. A native of Franklin county, he grew up on his father's 275 acre Preston area farm and competed in livestock and crops judging for Preston High School. Hawkes drafted for USA engineering and chemistry departments and tutored peers while at college. He assisted at a July engineering training conference in Soda Springs for SCS employees in southeastern Idaho. Hawkes and wife Colleen will return to USA Logan on Sept 30 to resume civil engineering studies.

Automobiles Collide Near Franklin Temple Area Crash
Two cars collided Monday night near the Franklin intersection when a 1956 Dundas sedan driven by Joseph A Nuffer of Preston failed to yield to a 1947 four door sedan driven by 18 year old Marvin Priestley of Franklin. The Nuffer car damage estimated at 1000 dollars. Priestley’s car a total loss. Mrs Nuffer was hospitalized briefly for observation. other passengers unharmed.

Local Judging Team Wins Third at Eastern Idaho Fair
Five Preston High School vocational agriculture students represented the school in livestock and dairy judging at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot last week. They won third place in dairy events after a week of pre fair training on local farms and demonstrations. The team comprised Paul Bennett Richard Bodily and Lawrence Weeks with mentors and parents listed. On Tuesday morning 70 students traveled by bus to the fair to inspect livestock sheds machinery demos and attend horse races.
