Lynn Fackrell, a Preston native and World War II veteran, will open his Fackrell Plumbing and Heating Co in a new 70 by 58 foot cinder block building on South State street across from Jensen Implement Co. The opening Saturday offers free gas balloons for children and six main prizes plus many smaller prizes to visitors who register.

Preston High Homecoming Game Postponed to Sept 11
Preston High will hold its homecoming Friday September 11 after a scheduling change. Stores in the area will close two hours during the football game previously set for September 25. Coach Glen Oliverson’s Indians open the season against Gooding High, with North Cache High as the homecoming opponent a week later.

Temporary eight mile detour rumored for Dayton highway
Farmers hauling beets and other products to market face concern as the west Dayton highway is closed and an eight mile detour is in effect. State highway department workers say no long term detour is needed and the roadbed should reopen by September 15.

Shannon Nash of Franklin won first in the under 12 talent division at Isis theatre. Karen Tingey of Weston took second with a piano solo "Deep Purple" in the 12 13 age group. Marilyn Nash of Linrose highlighted with a ballet placing first in Rural Youth. The Viehweg children, Renae Knudson, and Mardell Nielson earned additional prizes. Farm Demonstration Of Tillage Tools At Winder
A dry land tillage demonstration will be held Thursday Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at the David Johnson farm in Winder. The event will show sweep tools chisels listers moldboards beaters subsoilers and drills in action with results from the Tetonia dry land station on production and soil loss. Scotty McDole of the soil conservation service will assist local groups with the program. Farmers Future Farmers and 4-H members are invited.

Reed Merrill and Kay Fellows Top Rural Youth Speech Winners
Reed Merrill, son of Dr and Mrs L V Merrill of Preston, won best public speaker for his five minute talk Self Government is My Responsibility at the Rural Youth event held at Isis Theatre. Kay Fellows was named alternate. Merrill earns an expense paid trip to Boise for state honors and trips to Chicago for Farm Bureau events and a December national fall meet. He plans dental studies at University of Washington after ROTC service. Fellows, a USAC graduate and ROTC alum, plans vocational agriculture and is the son of Mr and Mrs O V Fellows of Preston.
