A beet loading machine built by H. Carl Nielson and his son with Franklin County Sugar Co proves foolproof after three weeks in operation. It loads beets at about one and a quarter tons per minute, replacing many workers and cutting dirt removed from fields. The device, adaptable to loading peas and hay, is inexpensive to build and will be used on the Nielson farm east of Preston during harvest.

Two Franklin County Men Reported On War Casualty List This Week
Two Franklin County men appear on a war casualty list. First Lieutenant Stanley F. Olsen, 24, a Liberator bomber pilot, is missing since October 1 after a European mission. His telegram arrived for his wife Peggy Pollock in Salt Lake City, with their infant son, and his father in Glencoe learned of the news. Olsen, enlisted February 1942, trained in Tucson and San Diego, went overseas February 1943, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for action over Albanian oil fields. He is the son of Gus and Elizabeth Olsen, born October 7, 1919, and was active in Preston schools and University of Idaho activities. His family and brothers and sisters await further word.

Preston Idaho Youth VanNoy Killed in Southwest Pacific
Nathan K. VanNoy Junior, 19, of Preston Idaho, was killed in action in the Southwest Pacific after a few days earlier being reported slightly wounded. He enlisted in August 1942 and served with the army engineering corps, with duties in England and Australia before overseas deployment. Surviving are his mother Pauline VanNoy two brothers Sgt VanNoy Spencer and two sisters Delaine Hunter and Betty Jean. Memorial services will be arranged by the bishopric of the Second ward.
