Franklin county home demonstration agent wins national service award

Mrs. Lucretia Maughan earns the National Home Demonstration Agents Association distinguished service award in New Orleans. She has led Franklin county extension since 1947 in clothing and home economics, with 4-H members achieving national honors. The council arranged travel funds so she could attend despite family illness, and she will return to Preston Saturday.

ASC Elections Set in County From Nov 9 21

County farmers will elect community committees to direct local farm programs for the next year. Elections run November 9 to 21 with community boards selecting a chairman and officials who will attend the county convention. Derrald Watkins Named Cache Valley Scout Executive

Derrald L. Watkins is appointed scout executive of the Cache Valley Council succeeding Thane Packer. He resumes duties November 1 after seven years as district executive and other roles in San Diego, with prior service in the council from 1949 to 1952. Watkins, born in Logan and a Utah State University alumnus, is married with four children.

Idaho State College Band Heads 1959-60 Season

Large Dayton Ward Chapel Dedication Draws Big Crowd

The Dayton ward chapel was dedicated Sunday evening at 7 30 with about 900 attendees. Apostle Mark E. Peterson delivered the dedicatory prayer as the Franklin stake presidency and stakePresident Henry Rawlings attended. Former ward members from Idaho and Utah praised the building and its completion.

New Counselors Are Sustained At Conference

Oneida stake LDS quarterly conference was held Sunday with general sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Stake President Shirley M. Palmer conducted. Elder Mark E. Peterson spoke, urging Latter-day Saints to study scriptures. Carl A. Mortensen and Willis R. Burton were sustained as first and second counselors to Pres. Ree Jensen of the sixth quorum of elders. Percy Ketzler, Dale Larsen, and Allen Bergquist were also sustained in auxiliary roles. Golden Gleaner awards honored Audrey Vail and Carlene Egley.

Harvest Banquet Set With Ogden Leader as Speaker

Lloyd Browning selected as the new Idaho Farm Bureau state secretary succeeding F W Costello. Browning, former Preston resident, a 1949 University of Idaho graduate, served in the Army Air Corps and has held Farm Bureau roles since 1950. He and Natalie Wells Browning have two young children.

Scouts and Explorers to Receive Honors at Court of Honor

Franklin county Boy Scouts will be honored at the district court of honor and uniform inspection Friday at Oneida stake house. Harry Woolley and Warland Clark co-chair the Scout advancement committee. Uniform inspection at 7:30 p.m. and court of honor at 8 p.m. features recognition of first class star life and eagle earners. merit badges not presented. Parents invited.

Local Census Takers Begin Training at Courthouse

Census takers for the local area in the 1959 census of agriculture have been appointed and will begin an intensive training course on Oct. 28 in preparation for the field canvass starting Oct. 31. The training session is announced today by crew leader Robert B. Gibson.
