National Guardsman, 22, Dies in Jeep Accident Sunday

A 22 year old National Guard member, LeRoss Leslie Wickham, died when his jeep overturned on a Glendale road 50 miles northeast of Preston while en route to rifle practice. Two passengers, Ronald Hodges and Garth Winn, suffered minor injuries. Burial details and survivors are listed, with funeral services held in the Franklin ward chapel yesterday.

Oneida Stake Conference Doors Open in Preston

Elder Mark B Petersen of the Council of Twelve Apostles will speak at the Oneida stake conference October 17 and 18 in Preston.Stake President Shirley M Palmer presides with sessions at 9 30 a m and 2 p m. Petersen, a former Desert News editor and current president of a church publishing company, will address missions youth programs and welfare. The event highlights Church growth with 1.5 million members and about 6 000 missionaries across 50 missions.

Train Schedules Change at Dayton to Boise Evening Coach

The Dayton station announces a new through coach to Boise every evening at 10 37 p m, coach 35. Trains 33 and 34 have been eliminated and the station operates five days weekly from 8 to 5. Contact Dayton agent by phone 3492 for details.

Two Hour Parking Set To Begin In Preston

A near future plan introduces two hour parking from 9 a m to 5 p m in Preston. City police urge employees and merchants to park at rear entrances to free street space for customers. Signs will be placed on light poles to inform the public.

Peter Jorgensen Dead at 82 in Preston

Peter Jorgensen 82 a Preston resident for nearly 50 years died Tuesday in an Ogden hospital after an operation. Born June 2 1887 in Filskov Denmark he settled in Preston in 1910. He organized the Preston Rifle Club served as president and was a member of the Preston Elks lodge. Survived by several children 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services Friday at 1 PM in the Preston seventh ward chapel. Burial in Preston cemetery. Webb Mortuary to aid.

Upprehended For Bad Checks In Local Arrest

Robert Hollenbeck, 37, was arrested at the Johnson hotel Saturday by Sheriff Ray Talbo. He was wanted in Portabella Logan Brigham City and Ogden for forgery. A July incident saw bad checks in Preston. He passed a $95 check here and is held on $10,000 bond awaiting district court.

New Chapel at Dayton Ward To Be Dedicated Sunday

Dayton ward dedicates a new $262,000 chapel with Elder Mark E. Peterson presiding. The service features a full program including hymns, readings, and remarks by Bishop Don Q. Dalley and others, tracing the ward’s history from its 1867 settlement to the present edifice.

Prudential Prize Winners Named In Candle Contest

Horace Hayes reports Prudential Savings and Loan Association held a candle-guessing contest drawing nearly 1,000 entries. Winners include Norrie Palmer for first prize a Hi Fi set, Marie Lindsardt second for a Bell and Howell camera outfit, Donna Calac third for a clock radio, Wendell Oliverson fourth for an electric clock, Bert Martin fifth for a table radio, Leo Hobbs sixth for a Sheaffer set, Wells McEntire seventh for a pen and pencil set, Karen Hodges eighth, and Nancy Brown, Mrs. Platt D Ward, Richard Perry, and Sharon Thomas receiving prizes. Mrs Johnson thanked entrants.

Republicans Conduct School Here Monday

Republican mobilization training in the courthouse drew 30 attendees from Franklin County including Dor Barger and Joyce Smith. Idaho state and national party officials led the program with out of state instructors from Washington and Missouri deeming it the best Idaho training session to date.
