Preston Jaycees Launch Register and Vote Drive

The Preston Jaycees this week launched a Register and Vote campaign urging county residents to verify voter registration before the October 30 deadline. Registrars listed include Hattie Wallgren, Lillia Radford, Beatrice Swainston, and David Davis in Preston, with additional officials named for Banida, Clifton, Egypt, Fairview, Franklin, Glendale, Mapleton, Mink Creek, Oneida Station, Riverdale, Thatcher, Weston, and Whitney.

Fredrick Gregersen Succumbs to Illness Funeral Planned

Fredrick Gregersen 77 died Monday night at the home of his son Marcus in Banida after a lingering illness. Born February 4, 1869 in Brander Denmark, he lived in Preston and Banida before moving to Logan ten years ago. He married Maren Jorgensen in 1893 in Filskov Denmark and was an active LDS church worker, serving as ward teacher and a member of the high priests quorum. Funeral services for Fredrick will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the second ward chapel.

Finance Kits Return Campaign Urges Completion

Merlin T. Whittle finance chairman of Franklin County district asks Cache Valley Boy Scout council to check progress on the finance drive. Of 237 kits issued to workers in two wards and local stakes, 92 have been returned with funds totaling 3400 dollars toward a 5000 dollar quota. The drive must finish this week to support Boy Scout work and reach the quota.

Funeral for Blaine N Taylor Held After Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Throngs of friends and family mourn Blaine N Taylor 24 as funeral services are held in the First Ward chapel. Taylor was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle struck a deer on the highway east of Heber City Utah. His cousin Bonnie Hullinger escaped with cuts and bruises as a riding companion. Two Preston Graduates Enlist in U S Navy

Glade Ramon Heusser and Kermit James Herd Jr., Preston high school graduates, enlisted for three years in the United States Navy. They passed final physicals in Salt Lake City and departed by train for San Diego to begin 12 weeks of recruit training at the naval training center.

Car Hits Steer. Driver Uninjured on Highway 91

Norman Fonnesbeck of Weston drove a car that struck a steer on highway 91 near the hill north west of the city. The driver escaped uninjured while the vehicle sustained about 150 in damage, and the steer was killed. The accident occurred about 12:45 am Sunday, according to state patrolman Jay Wakeman who investigated.

County Schools Receive 8101 034 29 Apportionment Funds

Franklin County and Gem valley districts receive apportionments totaling 8101 034 29 from county and state funds. East Side No 201 gets 1 534 43 from county and 57 490 295 from state for 12 84 percent. West Side No 202 receives AT0 AG from county and 17 963 94 from state for 22 76 percent. Gem Valley No 23 gets 92 69 from county and 3 472 82 from state for 4 40 percent. Idaho’s 44 counties total 2 447 433 75 for public schools.

Winward Family Welcomes 25th Grandson at Local Hospital

Woodrow Winward greeted his first son Wednesday as deer season opened. He notes the newborn is his 25th grandson, with 44 grandchildren in total and all but eight bearing the Winward name. The baby’s mother and child were reported doing well at the local hospital as relatives prepared for a mountain trip.
