Felix A. Smout 38 Dies in Salt Lake After Illness

Felix Alexander Smout 38 died Monday at 5 p m in a Salt Lake hospital after an extended illness He was born July 11 1909 in Mink Creek son of Alexander and Elva Peterson Smout He worked as a maintenance man at Oneida Station and previously farmed He married Ora Nielson November 17 1939 in the Logan temple He leaves his widow two children Bruce and Cathy his parents seven brothers and sisters Funeral services were held today at 2 p m in Preston with burial in Preston cemetery

Memorial service for Neal H. Jorgensen set in Weston ward

A memorial will be held October 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weston ward chapel for Neal H. Jorgensen. He enters the mission home in Salt Lake City on November 8 and sails for Copenhagen November 17 aboard the Swedish American line. Jorgensen served two years in the army with the 96th infantry division in Okinawa and the Philippines, then studied at USAC and a Dallas photography program before graduation.

Car Driver Snaps Pole in Oneida Crash

Richard Sorenson a 17 year old son of Roy and Mrs Sorenson was driving east on Oneida when he glanced back at the car behind him and struck a telephone pole in front of the A G Carlson home. The 1929 model car was damaged about 150 dollars and the pole broke in two. Duane Forti, riding in the car, suffered slight injuries.

Nancy Beckstead Jones, 85, formerly of Preston now of Dayton, fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking her first airplane ride Sunday at Brigham City airport. She felt fine after the flight, enjoyed it, and hopes to fly again. Housing and Office Space Sought for Mink Creek Canal Work

The U S bureau of reclamation seeks office space and housing in Preston for Mink Creek canal and Station Creek tunnel work. Seven or eight staff will work on site alongside LeGrande Johnson of Logan and Leland Knudson of Ogden, who won related contracts. The Preston chamber of commerce asks locals with rooms or homes to rent to contact Vaughn Greaves.

The aycees in Preston plan a Halloween program for October 31 to keep youths out of mischief. Last year’s event included a parade with prizes by age group, free movie at the high school gym, and a country store party with entertainment. Clifton Girl Burned Severely In Home Accident

Five year old Evelyn Weed of Clifton suffered third degree burns over much of her body when her dress caught fire at the family home Tuesday afternoon. Her mother was at a relief society meeting. the child ran to her father who wrapped her in a burlap sack to smother the flames. Clifton miller truck driver Sylvan Talbot aided, and a rushed transport to Preston followed by Merrill-Hawkes clinic care, then to Salt Lake City hospital for extensive treatment.

Contracts for the Preston bench project were awarded to William E Thatcher and Leland Knudson of Ogden and LeGrande Johnson of Logan. Thatcher will begin tunnel construction immediately, Knudson and Johnson to handle Mink Creek canal and Birch Creek to tunnel sections. University of Idaho honors Preston figures in campus activities

Preston students at the University of Idaho in Moscow were recognized at a general assembly. President Buchanan awarded scholarships and the Sears Roebuck prize went to freshmen Vernon Hinkley Kelley Bowles Charles Choules. Raymond Clark received a $100 Union Pacific scholarship.
