Preston Chamber Banquet to Feature Julius M Kleiner

The Preston Chamber of Commerce announces a fall banquet featuring Julius M. Kleiner of Nampa, touring Russia last summer. The event on Thursday, Nov. 10, at Oneida stakehouse recreation hall will raise funds for the American Legion Memorial Building. Proceeds go to the building fund. tickets available from the chamber and local farm bureau leaders. An estimated 500 guests are expected.

Cache Valley BYU Club Holds First Meeting

The Cache Valley BYU club held its first meeting at Brigham Young University on Wednesday October 5 in the Joseph Smith building. About 50 members attended with David Swainston as club president handling business for the coming year. Games and refreshments followed. The club invites all Cache Valley students to join for social and spiritual gatherings.

Back To School Night Planned by School PTA

The school PTA chairs and committee meet Monday with teachers and mothers to plan Back to School Night on Nov 7. Halloween parade is Oct 31 after lunch. Nov 9 10 and 11 are parent conference days replacing report cards with private talks. Refreshments followed the meeting.

Pheasant Study To Be Conducted In Franklin County

A joint study by the Idaho Fish and Game Department and Utah Fish and Game Department with Utah cooperative Abilidairesearch unit will assess pheasant populations during the seasons. The Idaho 15 day season opens Oct 22 at noon and Utah five day season starts Nov 5. The Franklin county area covers Preston south ward to the state line with six tiles east and west across the valley. Field collectors will gather data from hunters in the study areas.

Logan youth Ross Rose Faces Speeding Charge in Preston

Logan county sheriff chased a group of three youths driving at 110 mph through Preston's business district at 11 p.m. Monday. Rulon Elwood Rose, 28, was fined 300 dollars and sentenced to 90 days in jail with 60 suspended by Judge W. Paul Merrill. Two companions, about the same age, were not jailed.

Couple to Observe Golden Wedding in Preston

An open house will honor Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Bergquist on their golden wedding anniversary Sunday from 3 to 4 p m at 451 South 4th West Preston. They were married October 25 1905 in Logan LDS temple. Mrs Bergquist was born in Sweden and came to this state at age four. The couple has six children four living Leonard Nielsen of Ogden Lee Bergquist Don Bergquist Preston and Mrs Floyd Morrison Lewiston and ten grandchildren.

West Side Pirates Rally To Beat Bancroft 26 14

West Side High hosted Bancroft in a homecoming win as David Balls intercepted a Bancroft pass in the second quarter. Gary Porter scored two long TD runs, Scott Bergeson added the extra point after Porter’s first score, Wayne Austin added a third touchdown, and Jack Jee kicked the extra point.

Six Year Old Son Of Brigham City Couple Die On Farm

Richard James Brown six year old son of Robert J and Vila Rawlings Brown was killed last Thursday on his grandfather Oscar Rawlings farm in Fairview when his head was crushed under a beet truck wheel. He had ridden a beet topper before the accident. His body was found in a field after a short search and tire marks showed the wheel passed over his head. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Fairview LDS ward chapel with burial in Fairview cemetery by Webb mortuary. Survivors include his parents a sister Susan and his grandparents.

Scout Leaders Overnight Camp Planned for Friday

Plans are set for the annual Franklin County district basic training course final session. The overnight event will be at Roy Smiths campground in Riverdale with check in between 5 and 7 p m Friday and wrap up by 10 a m Saturday to allow pheasant hunting season. Arnold Sant will present Patrol and Troop Hiking and Camping with help from the training troop as scouters who completed the course join in.

Six Franklin County Youths Receive Honorable Discharges

Six Franklin county youths completed service in the United States Army and were discharged honorably after their required duty. Lyle Nelson Cole of Preston received the National Defense Service Medal, among others. Jerald George Hobbs of Franklin earned United Nations service and Korean service medals with good conduct. William Dean Egbert of Preston got the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct and Army Occupation Medal for Germany. Deward William Carver Jr. of Preston received the National Defense Service Medal. Elmer Neel Stokes of Franklin was discharged with National Defense Service Medal. Robert Herd Mendenhall of Thatcher left service October 7 with National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals.

Rotary club of Preston hosts J Rodger Mendenhall district governor of Rotary International at its regular meeting. He will address members and confer with club leaders on administration and service activities. Mendenhall, Boise theater owner and former Boise airport chairman, was elected district governor for 1955 56, overseeing 238 district governors and 8700 clubs.
