Eastside School District Approves Re zoning Plan

A re zoning plan for the Eastside school district was approved Monday. The plan would give Preston one city school zone and four zones extending from Preston to the county line.

Preston voting rise as registration nears city election

About 1150 residents are registered to vote in Preston with 400 new registrations since the period opened. City treasurer Mrs. Victor Nash notes 750 auto-registered voters from the last city election and forecasts more registrations before the November 4 vote. Precinct clerks and judges were appointed, and library board changes were discussed alongside district zoning plans and school program actions.

Two Preston High Grads Lead State Dental Associations

Dr W Mark Smith of Boise presides over the Idaho State Dental Association and is identified as a Preston High School alumnus, the son of Mrs Teresa T Smith. Dr Reed P Larson of Salt Lake City heads Utah’s association, and is a Preston High School graduate from 1937, brother to Keith P Larson of Preston.

Idaho Enacts Snowmobile Registration Law

Idaho law requires all snowmobiles to be registered by owners with a $5 fee, issuing emblems for display. Registration starts by November 1, and valid operation on public roads is restricted to snowy or specially permitted events, with lighting and braking requirements.

State Police Issue 22 Tickets In Traffic Check

The state police conducted a three hour traffic checkpoint and issued 22 citations. Seventeen cited expired inspection stickers and five cited expired driver's licenses. Patrolman Dean Gunnell urged motorists to check sticker and license expiration dates.

County to auction 600000 hospital bonds by Nov 10

Franklin County Commissioners call for bids on 600000 in hospital bonds. Bids open at 2 am November 10 after guidance from Kenneth D Newman of Burrows Smith and Co fiscal agents. Newman notes weak municipal bond market but emphasizes stakes. voters approved the issue with a six percent cap to fund remodeling and nursing home addition without federal funds.

Christmas Gift Day at Franklin County Fairgrounds

The annual Christmas Gift Suggestion Day will be held October 24 25 under the Franklin County Home Extension council sponsorship. Old football field to get new face at school site

Board rejected placing the new football field on the newly acquired Kofoed property citing small size. Instead the district approved purchasing the old Kofoed parcel with the best offer for development into the school playground area.

Amalgamated Sugar Beet Campaign Underway Across Regions

The Amalgamated Sugar plant began beets processing on Tuesday and enters a 55 day campaign. About 7000 acres feed the Lewiston area with harvests starting Oct 6 in Grace and Oct 8 in Ogden and Cache Valley. Officials expect about 100000 tons this year, below last year's due to a dry spring. The Lewiston plant currently employs 55 full time workers.
